Did you per chance install lilo in the partition instead of the MBR? If you 
do, lilo will overwrite the XFS superblock which lives at block 0 and thus 
making it impossible to mount the filesystem.

running xfs_repair will fix your filesystem by using one of the secondary 
super blocks. But though shall not install lilo on a xfs_partition.

Afaik you can install lilo on your swap partition. People have reported 
this to work.
