Sure, that should work.  Performance will suck.

I would *guess* it will work, but it should be tested.  However, if it
does work, don't expect it to always work.

You *cannot* assume that writing to a file is the be-all-and-end-all
for data security --- it's not.  Mail Transfer Agents know this and
have code to deal with this as appropriate.
