Ted,

I'm in the middle of trying to get this to all work in my lab.  I'm using Suse 8.0 but the basic process should be the same.  (SuSE 8.0 include XFS support out of the box, so I have it a little easier than you.)

Everything is supposed to work now, but there are few things you still have to do.  (I understand that the latest Mandrake ships with everything already configured correctly.)

1) Make sure you have a implementation of XFS that supports ACLs.  (ACLs are the users and permissions you are taking about.)

Note: You can use getfacl and setfacl from the command line to verify the above is working, if you aren't sure.

2) Make sure you have libattr and libacl installed on your server.  (You can get them from the XFS site, but they are now being developed at http://acl.bestbits.at/ and are shared by the xfs and bestbits projects)

3) Compile Samba from source with the --with-acl-support argument passed into ./configure.  Unfortunately, Samba normally has a bunch of arguments passed into ./configure, so if you want it to compile more or less like Redhat did, then you need to get the spec file out of their SRPM.  The easiest may be to just add --with-acl-support to the spec file, then use "rpm -bi samba.spec" to compile and install it.
