Yes.
I remember that for example, one subdirectory of a local copy of the bttv
driver tree got corrupted. I do not remember which one it was, but the
directory name must have been one of:
~/kernel/bttv-0.7.90$ find -type d
.
/driver
/driver/old
/pending
/ralphs-doc
/tools
As you see, no international characters here.
