That sounds very good to me.

I just looked at that and I have 2 questions.

1) Do you test with IDE drives and/or IDE Raid controllers. I was thinking they might be useful in a low-end solution. Especially now that there are IDE Hardware Raid controllers available for a reasonable price. Some even support hot-swap capabilities.

The test server I just ordered has a IDE hardware Raid controller in it.

My hope is that it will be relatively fast, and that the Raid controller with a 1 + 0 setup will read data 4 times the speed of a single drive.

I know that IDE has problems, but I am trying to setup a low-end Samba server, so I'm hoping that it will work okay.

2) Do you do any testing with Samba? I am going to install Mandrake 8.1 because it already has XFS and Samba with ACL support preconfigured.

I know I will still likely want to get the latest versions of both, but it seems smart to start with a working environment.

Thanks,
Greg
