kernel upgrade

Hello

I tried to update my kernel to kernel-smp-2.4.9-12SGI_XFS_1.0.2.i686.rpm
on a dual PIII with AIC 7896 SCSI controller.

Until now it ran 2.4.3-SGI_XFS_1.0.1smp (since I installed RedHat 7.1
with XFS 1.0.1 in July 2001) without any problem.

What I did:
- upgraded xfsprogs to 1.3.13 (from
/projects/xfs/download/latest/cmd_rpms/i386/)
- installed kernel-smp-2.4.9-12SGI_XFS_1.0.2.i686.rpm (from
/projects/xfs/download/latest/kernel_rpms/i386/2.4.9-12-RH7.1/)
- added a new entry in /etc/lilo.conf, including 'initrd=...' line
- ran succesfully lilo -v

What I got:
  [...]
  Mounting root file system
  XFS mounting file system sd(8,2)
  pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 240K freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

I even created myself initrd image (using mkinitrd) but nothing changed.

And that's the end of it. I'm running (for now) 2.4.3 kernel, but I
really like to get rid of it.

Any help, hint, hunch would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mihai
