Well, if you aren't using ACLs or other extended attribute information,
then you could use any generic backup utility like tar, cpio, bru, etc.
(Hopefully the generic utilities will start handling these things now that
the interfaces are defined.)

Or you could spend alot of money on Networker (which also probably
doesn't support EAs on Linux).

Or you could buy yourself a new tape drive that supports compression.

Or you could just buy yourself more tapes. :)
