Lockup since 2.4.4 when switching from X to console
Hi list,
I started using XFS with the RH-7.1-XFS release. No Problems at all - great
work! I then upgraded to the 2.4.3 release - again no problems.
A following attempt to upgrade the kernel to 2.4.4 using CVS and all later
releases lead to a complete lockup when switching from X to the console.
First I tried to eliminate the obvious possibilities for that problem:
- disabling all unneeded drivers
- disabling framebuffer
- compiling for a generic i386
and so on, but to no avail.
Then I converted all my filesystems back to ext2 and compiled the newest
"vanilla" kernel 2.4.9. No problems whatsoever...
I did again a cvs checkout and compiled a 2.4.9-xfs with the .config from
my previous 2.4.9-vanilla kernel without XFS. Again complete lockup.
On all test I used the kgcc. Every time besides the last (2.4.9) test I
compiled the XFS-enabled kernel with kdb, but not even the kdb kicked in.
Any hints on how to debug? I really would like to use XFS on this system...
Cheers,
Juri
