Well, I'm going to find out. I'm upgrading an existing Abit BP6 /
Dual-Celey 466MHz system (that has run a good 18 months) from:

   RedHat 6.2
   2.2.18 & Ext3 0.0.6b (full data journaling)
   Built-in i440BX-PIIX4 JBOD

To:

   RedHat 7.1
   2.4.3 & XFS 1.0.1
3W-7800 RAID-0+1 (four disks to start)

I've used ISA/PCI add-on "hardware watchdogs" before. I have also
played with the "software watchdog" before. Now are you saying
there is a separate "CPU watchdog" that SMP-APIO chipset/mainboards
have?

If so, is this compiled in the default 2.4.3/XFS 1.0.1 kernels? If
so, how do I deactivate it?

I see your name all the time. So where do you remember my
insignificant name from?

BTW, I've been, more or less, "lurking" around here for awhile. But
now that I'm doing Linux 100% of the time (see employer below, AVS
;-), I'm getting back to being on-list more. I've also stopped
bothering with my local LUG **, which frees up a _lot_ of personal
time too.

** Note: It's good to be involved with your local LUG. Except when
the leadership (who are great bureaucrats, which is good for a
non-profit organization I guess) continues to be a bunch of
non-Linux using individuals. This is then compounded by the fact
that they are the most prolific posters who constantly post
technically incorrect stuff on-list like they are "experts."
Because some get so offended no matter how hard you try to "be nice"
when you correct them, most of the us real, experience Linux
sysadmins have stopped bothering to post or attend meetings
altogether.
