2.4 pushes hardware a bit harder. I noticed bad ram faster on a 2.4 kernel.
When I upgraded my home machine from 2.2 to 2.4 I noticed more crashes
which were eradicated after replacing a dimm.
What compiler did you use? And what distribution are you on.
