Yep, only one patch.  The "cvs" patch will build a cvs tree as of the
date & time the patch was created, you can continue to use cvs to update
this tree.

The "non-cvs" patch will just patch up a kernel to the state cvs was in
at the time, but does not construct a whole cvs tree.

The "do not use" is a bit dire, perhaps, it's just that there's no
reason to grab all the cvs info if you're not going to use it as a cvs
tree.
