This looks to be a bug specific to the XFree 3.9.16 DRI
implementation; the same Performer-on-Linux code works with plain
software Mesa 3.1b3 & XFree 3.3.3.1 and the other XFree/OpenGL
implementations such as nVidia's.

[The bug 766480 'multiwin sample program not functional' referred to
a problem we were having with multiple windows and plain Mesa, now
fixed]

We'll follow up with the dri-devel folks.
