Here is an offcial statement from Jeff Brown, our lowend PC product manager:
SGI will not be productizing the 320/540 Visual Workstations as
Linux graphics platforms. You may have heard about or seen demonstrations of
Performer and OpenGL running on a 320 at Linux World or Siggraph. These
demonstrations were intended to be a technology demonstration and proof
point for accelerated OpenGL 3D graphics for Linux and were not intended to
imply productization of a Linux version of the 320 or 540. This technology
demonstration follows the release by SGI of GLX source code into the Open
Source community thereby setting the stage for the acceleration of OpenGL as
the enabling foundation for 3D graphics on all flavors of UNIX and Linux.
