double-buffering for depth-buffer

Hello,

Though this is an iR/OpenGL question, can I use doublebuffering of
depth buffer?

I think to make the iR output both of normal video & chroma-key.
I seem to be able to use Alpha-plane instead of Z but it makes
frame-rate fall.
