I am very proud to announce that we have completed our engineering
work on the first version of Mongoose, IRIS Performer 2.3 for Linux!
The final images were handed over to the SGI release team last night,
right on schedule. You will be able to download it from www.sgi.com
next Monday.
I'd like to thank all of you who have participated in our Mongoose
Beta program. We couldn't have completed the job without your help.
The feedback has been tremendous, with several hundred messages over
the past two months from all sorts of Performer users. IRIS
Performer 2.3 for Linux has now been tested on more PC platforms and
more Linux versions than we could imagine. And it is truly done in
the Linux spirit: open and sharing. Thank you for the wonderful
teamwork!
Many of you have asked how much IRIS Performer 2.3 for Linux will cost.
Great news: It is free! Both the runtime and development software
will be available for any Linux user to download from www.sgi.com.
Some other news, the hardware accelerated OpenGL on Linux demo'd at
SIGGRAPH is not going to be productized for our SGI 320 or 540
systems. But don't take this to mean our company is changing our
committment the low-end Linux graphics business -- we have some
incredible offerings in store. Please contact your local SGI sales
rep for a NDA briefing on our future graphics products.
For feedback and initial support, please continue using
mongoose-feedback++at++corp.sgi.com.
Stay tuned for the official release announcements next week.
Once again, thank you for your support and encouragement!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Looking forward to seeing many of you at I/ITSEC!
