Performers,

The Performer team is very pleased to announce the 2nd public Beta
release of IRIS Performer 2.3 for Linux.

This release integrates your valuable feedback from the first Beta
and has been tested on a variety of Pentium-based systems running Red
Hat Linux 6.0 and 6.1. Beta 2.0 contains hundreds of enhancements
and updates; performance, stability, robustness, and interactivity
are all greatly improved.

Please see our web site for all the details and downloads:

   http://www.sgi.com/software/performer/linux.html

Downloading the software is free. You'll need a SurfZone ID, which
can be obtained by registering at the site (also free).

The release is fully API-compatible with existing IRIS Performer
applications and is a full distribution, including the core run-time
libraries and file loaders, development header files, sample source
code, and manual pages. IRIS Performer 2.3 Beta 2.0 now includes
DEB-packaged images for Debian Linux distributions, as well as RPM
and TGZ packaging as before.

As this is a BETA release, we expect bugs may be found and we welcome
your input as we continue our work in preparation for the final
release. This Beta release is primarily intended as a usable
development and porting platform and we will use your feedback to
make changes for the final productized version of IRIS Performer 2.3
for Linux.

To report bugs, send feedback, submit patches, or reach the IRIS
Performer team directly to ask questions about this Beta release,
send mail to mongoose-feedback++at++corp.sgi.com. Please note that we
have anticipated many of the questions you might have, and we have
found in our testing many of the problems you will come across.
Please review the bug list and FAQ before sending questions or
submitting any bug reports:

   http://www.sgi.com/software/performer/linux-developer.html

In particular please note that the OpenGL library dependencies for
the Beta 2.0 release have changed. Refer to the dependencies section
of the FAQ for more information.

You are encouraged to continue using the info-performer mailing list
for general technical discussion of this Beta release software and
IRIS Performer, as before.

Thank you, and enjoy the Beta 2.0 release.

The IRIS Performer Team
