Serial IO question

Everyone who is having serial io problems should just read the man page on
termio. It describes the old termio data structure, the new data structure,
and how to write your code to use either at compile time. Works just fine.

Also for cabling: on old machines, at least Reality Engines, serial pins 2,3,
and 7 were the only pins used. Pin 7 was ground and since pin 5 is ground on
the device end, you needed to map 7 to 5. You also needed a null modem to
cross 2 and 3. On the new machines, the SGI serial is now PC compatible. Pins
2 and 3 no longer need a a null modem and pin 5 is ground on the SGI so the
cables you use today are pins 2, 3, and 5 straight through.
