You must either get a hold of the geoset color information or the
geostate material information.

The material() may not be unique so you'd have to make a copy and use it
on that data only. The geoset colors would work with the right
glcolormaterial set or if you had no lighting enabled. Either way it
seems like you'll ave to at least check the state information.
