LOS Query

Hi,

What is the best way of doing LOS query ? I want to detect if an object is seen
by the observer looking at some direction. the first idea was

-first check if the entity is in viewing frustrum
-then build an isector and direct it to the object. If the isector hits sth else before the
object, it is not seen by the observer.

It doesn't look the greatest idea esp. in respect to speed issue.
