You could try to run the app from a local disk. 6.5.3 and 6.5.4
seem to generate mangled coredumps over NFS.

(Maybe I should have sent a bug report, but I just didn't have the
 time to create an example. A simple null ref did generate a valid
 corefile...)

A fix for the invalid core file over NFS problem is available in 6.5.5
