Saving model with texture in pfb format

I have a question about saving files in the pfb format.
We load different models (flt, iv, etc) into Performer
and would like to save the final Scene as a pfb file
for quicker loading. I used pfdStoreFile_pfb with the
root. The scene was saved, but without texture.
I then set pfdConverterMode_pfb(PFPFB_SAVE_TEXTURE_IMAGE, PF_ON)
and did it again. The size of the pfb file went through the
roof (to approx the size of the model + the image texture),
but still no texture when I read it back.

Am I missing any other mode that also should have been set?
Do I require to set some mode while reading the pfb file to
make the texture visible?
