This is a pretty important security feature but it can be disabled if
you're in a secure environment. Edit /usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config,
look for:

DisplayManager*grabServer: True

Change it to False, and restart xdm:

# (/usr/gfx/stopgfx; sleep 1; killall -HUP xdm; sleep 1; /usr/gfx/startgfx) &
