Been there!
I use 1280x1024_114s format when I want stereo, and any Electrohome
Marquee 8500/9500 should be able to handle this. The 21" CRT from SGI
cannot handle this stereo format (1024x768_96s seems to be tops for it) so we
usually sit in front of the 'big screen' instead of the tube. I also tried
to
use the two channels to set up two different display options, but there
is not enought bandwidth in the one RM board (actually we have tried
2 RMs in the VET Center, and there is still not enough bandwidth). The
solution is to sit in front of the projector, or use an external video
splitter
on one channel to drive the projector and a CRT monitor (that is, if you
can find a monitor that can handle this format).
We sit in front of the screen and use an .auxchestrc option to switch
from mono to stereo via ircombine non-gui commands.
Menu Util
{
"1280x1024++at++114s" f.checkexec.sh "/usr/gfx/ircombine -destination
active -channel 0 format=/usr/gfx/ucode/KONA/dg4/vfo/1280x1024_114s.vfo"
"1600x1200++at++60" f.checkexec.sh "/usr/gfx/ircombine -destination
active -channel 0 format=/usr/gfx/ucode/KONA/dg4/vfo/1600x1200_60.vfo"
}

Hmmm. I usually get a good indication from ircombine whenever I select
stereo/mono formats. Is that what you mean?

Looks OK to me. Look at the Performer sample source spacefly.C

We all started at the beginning just like you. Hope I could help a bit.
