Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that also. I was looking for a
method which uses perhaps higher order equations for 'modeling' the surface
in order to generate better normals. For example, I could use three vertices
in a row to generate a spline equation and take use the tangent at the middle
vertex to generate a normal. Seems like a lot of work and I thought that
perhaps someone else has experimented with this and come up with a decent
solution.
