Well, you seem to have selected your inter process communication method but experince
shows that not only writing a gui with java and building the JNI com. is difficult but also
it is a bit painful when it comes to maintanance.

I would suggest Tcl/Tk. Vega has already some bindings for tcltk on IRIX but I don't know
about NT. TclTk provides a better frame in my opinion.
