Dials and Bbox under irix 6.5 ??

just start to work on an old API.
it was under Irix 5.3 on Perf2.0 with IrisGL.
here are my questions

first how can I declare Dials and Bbox under 6.5
the generic serial io device has no choice for dial and Bbox.
and I don't know wich and how starting the daemon for those.

second because I'll be on OpenGL optimized machines, what is the best way
to read Dials and Bbox.

qdevice was so easy...
is there another method than reading the serial port?
