We did use a pfSequence to animate a recoiling barrel when a ship's gun is
firing. The sequence was created in Multigen and everything works fine once
translated into Performer.
Like you said, using only a pfSwitch would require explicit ON and OFF
commands for every flash. However, you can use a pfSwitch as the parent of
the pfSequence and use it to start/stop your flashing (the pfSwitch will
have 2 children, the first one will be a default representation when the
indicator is not flashing and the other one will be the pfSequence).
