FPE while loading OpenFlight file

I am getting a floating point exception sometimes when loading a flt
file. My C subroutine that loads the file is called from a routine that
enables trapping of floating point exceptions. Does the flt format
loader (and Performer in general) expect floating point exceptions to be
ignored? If so, how can I turn off the trapping and turn it back on
when finished?
