One comment on the performance of mediaplayer that has been discussed:
as well as compression issues I would suggest trying different formats
of movie file ( mediaconvert ), I'll bet some formats play better than
others. Running media player as root as well might help
incidentally, I recently worked on a libmovie based movie player which
played ( via a few hoops :-) ) to a pfTexture in a pfScene. I did manage
to get it working OK in multipipe scenes although it was never quite
satisfactory ( for various reasons which I won't get into here ) The
advantages of such a thing, providing the performance could be improved
a bit would be that you have access to all the libmovie API then to
control the play of your movie ( frame rates by correct frame times etc
). I don't think I have something that is right to post as it's rough
round the edges, at some point I'll polish it a bit but if anyone is
contemplating playing movies on ( arbitary ) geometry in their scene
then we can talk about some of the issues I ran into.
Cheers
Rob
