Hi,

I have been doing this pretty well on my Onyx2. If the movie is computer
generated, it should not be too hard because it is so compressable. I have been
shooting for 3840x1024 ++at++ 10fps.
I have been able to do 3840x1024 ++at++ 4.5fps with a single process. I have an
Onyx2 IR w/4x250MHz processors 2RM7s, and a dg5-8.

The first thing you must consider is compression. Because I am playing back
computer graphics, I have been able to realize 15:1 lossless compression of each
image. If your content is more "analog", you will not be able to do as well.
For a compression algorithm I compress using RLE encoding all 3 colors at a
time. That way the images take less time decompress.

I have been using just OpenGL calls, and some of my own routines, and some of
the rgb routines from Developers Toolbox.

I am by no means a programming wizard, and I don't really know performer or much
OpenGL, but I have been able to hack some things together.

I wouldn't mind collaborating with some other folks on this if my boss
doesn't mind. I will check with him about sharing information. Please get back
to me directly if you are interested.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi,

we are looking into doing that kind of thing also...

using that card, do you think it would be possible to display a 1024x768
movie full screen?

Right now, it looks like you need either expensive disks or expensive
VCR+video card...
