Try this:

    /usr/gfx/ircombine -destination active \
                       -source file 1024x768_96s.cmb

If your .cmb changes the size of the managed area, though, you will have
to restart the graphics in order for it to take effect, I believe:

    ( /usr/gfx/stopgfx ; /usr/gfx/startgfx ) &
