Grab the video format compilier. Make sure you carefully read and
understand the documentation though. You really need to know what you're
doing or else you can screw up your monitor.

yeah, I've been down this path. I experimented with creating different
video formats (my1280x1024_72s.vfo, my1280x1024_84s.vfo,
my1280x1024_92s.vfo, my1280x1024_96s.vfo). I don't think the 96hz one was
within the bandwidth of the monitor, but I think the rest worked (it's been
a while, my memory is kinda fuzzy). HOWEVER, there was a lot of flicker
and it was hard on the eyes and we decided not to go with them. It was
easier to go with 1120x840_96s.vfo.

Note that all the available stereo formats except 1280x492_120s.vfo are for
doing quad-buffer stereo. See
/usr/share/Performer/src/pguide/libpf/C/stereo.c. This seems to be the
recommended way of doing stereo if you can. The alternative is fullscreen
stereo (old-style stereo). See
/usr/share/Performer/src/pguide/libpf/C/stereotb.c. This will give you a
width of 1280, but vertical resolution is chopped in half. The visual
quality isn't that bad (quad-buffer does seem to look better though). As
long as you don't have any x-windows guis on there and you just have your
fullscreen performer app on there, it should work just fine for ya.

I don't know what handles 1280x1024_114s.vfo or 1280x1024_120s.vfo. Maybe
some projectors? or HMDs?

Hope this answers your question,
tom
