You need to upgrade to performer_eoe 2.2.3 or above:

     6.1.3 Problems fixed in IRIS Performer 2.2.3

          o pfdFindConverterDSO was unable to locate the 3ds file
            loader. This was the result of conflicting IL and IFL
            versions and has been fixed. (SCR 625838)

performer_eoe 2.2.3 was shipped on the IRIX 6.5.2 cd;
performer_eoe 2.2.4 is the latest, it's on the IRIX 6.5.3 cd.
