have you tried using

thisNode->setTravMask( PFTRAV_DRAW, 0x0, PFTRAV_SELF | PFTRAV_DESCEND, PF_SET );

instead of
>thisNode->setTravMask( PFTRAV_DRAW, 0x0, PFTRAV_DESCEND, PF_SET );
