We have had some recent postings about the nature of info-performer.
So, I will take this opportunity to remind all what keeps this
incredible list alive and special.

Most importantly, professional courtesy and resonable self-moderated
behavior are required.

Performer has been around for more than 8 years. Over this
long period of time, we have always maintained a close relationship
with our customers. That is what sets Performer apart from a lot
of other products. You help us decide what we should build
and what we should enhance. The info-performer group is one of
the technical bridges that tie the performer community together.
It is a very special technical mailing group.
We put huge amount of energy behind it.

The info-performer group discusses technical information about
Performer. It is not a SGI hot-line support, you should still
log a support call if you see a potential bug on SGI. Performer
team is not obligated to answer all the questions, and in fact,
a lot of questions are better answered by our customers. But we
do try our best to keep up. It is not for political purpose (no
criticism of competitors),
it is not for commercial purpose (no marketing advertisement),
it is also not for friendly chats (no "hi, heard your son is 6 month old,
does he have any teeth?").
Over the years as the Performer community grows, info-performer
has carried different flavors. That is great!
It always gives me a warm feeling to read the postings because
it feels like a very friendly family.
So, to maintain this atmosphere, we'd prefer to not install hard
rules, but remind old and newcommers of the environment of the list,
and tolerate a periodic fun discussion. Let us hope this
can continue.

People post a short "I am looking for a new opportunity" note on
info-performer, that is great, it is very valuable information
to the performer community, as long as you don't post your long
resume.
Commercials, on the other hand, is not encouraged in general.
Always check with us first. (email to zhz++at++engr.sgi.com).
In the past, we had a few ads on the net. The senders are pretty
careful not to carry any marketing flavors.

Eight years is a long friendship in the modern world standards.
There is no doubt we will have more and more different kinds
of information we want to share with our friends.
Maybe it is time for a fun-performer group?

We are very open for feedback. Please feel free to email
me >personally< your opinions.

This posting is by no means picking on Avi here who has previously posted
many valuble fun and technical things alike. It just seems to be the right
right time and place for this reminder.

We also understand the need for a place for postings like Avi's.
Perhaps it is time someone nominate a news group that could
exist in addition to the technical mailing list.

->I think your response is unfortunate. Many people who use this list use
->it as a resource for solving Performer problems. Avi is a consumate

->Would you object to someone posing an interesting Performer tip on this
->list? Or is your view of this list simply "pose a question and see if it
->gets answered"? I find that a list that spontaneously generates
->information can be much more useful than one that acts simply as a venue
->where if one posts the right question one might get the right answer.
