help with performer performance & octanes

I am running a visual simulation with Performer 2.2.3 & Irix 6.5.2. The visualisation side is running on onyx2 ir's maximpacts, onyx re2's. I have just got hold of an dual 195 octane ssi and am attempting to run it on that machine.

However, it runs like a dog. Event an o2 and maximpact runs it faster.

The database is a textured openflight affair.

Any ideas would be most welcome. DO octane ssi's/sse's run 3-d graphics so slow. Am i going to have to buy mxe.
