I have created a 20 level/512k cliptexture which is mostly empty (I
placed a previously created 13 level/4k texture, at its bottom left
corner, and 'pushed it up' the necessary 7 levels to gain the additional
area). In order to ensure that the texture is fully populated at all
levels, I have defined a default_tile in each level's image cache
configuration file. Each level uses 512 texel tiles and has been
verified using the icache tool. However, when running clipfly, I get the
following effects:
When Clip Size is set to 512, I can view all 20 levels, where tiles are
available (ie I have an inset). No default tiles are ever seen in
unpopulated areas of the texture.
When Clip Size is set to 1024 (what I want), it appears that only the
single-tile pyramid levels load correctly, and the remainder of the
texture is lost. Again, no default tiles are ever seen.
I have verified this by using the trashtexmem program (supplied by Don a
while back) prior to each clipfly run, and using the cliptexture sliders
to verify the presence or otherwise of each level .
I guess that I have two questions:
1) where are the default tiles?
2) why does varying the clipsize have such an effect?
I'm using an Onyx2 with 512Mb RAM, 64Mb texture memory. As far as I am
aware, my configuration files are pretty standard so I won't include
them here (yet!!).
As usual, any help is deeply appreciated.
