pfApplyTMat (Apply texture matrix)?

Has anyone ever employed the pfApplyTMat function (successfully)? I have it
being used in a pre-draw callback before drawing a cylinder with a
cylindrically mapped texture on it. Neither a rotation nor translation
pfMatrix appear to have any affect on the textured object, and the
rotatation/translation is being incrememented each frame (hence one would
like to see a texture spinning around the cylinder though the cylinder
geometry is fixed). The callback is being hit, but is having no affect on
the texture of the geometry within the group whose callback is hit. Does
the applied texture matrix affect all geometry in the subgraph beneath the
node or just that node itself? There is no source code employing this
function in any of the Performer API search tool (ugh), so I'm unsure what
effects I'm supposed to get. Must I resort to changing the glMatrixMode
myself here?
