My understanding is that there was no problem with the specific issue of
the existence of Vega on NT. There are a slew of 3rd party products
which do scene graph like things on NT, and many of them have been Beta
tested on SGI's new NT system because we want them to run well on the
new NT machines from the outset. So that's not a matter for concern. Roy
Latham has a survey of these types of API's and application products in
a recent issue of Real-Time Graphics and it's amazing how many there
are, (many developers use Performer to create the optimized SGI versions
of those products), it's a bit like comparing apples with squid but at
least he tried, even if you can't really correctly interpret most of
questions or take the answers from vendors at face value.
There are significant parallels here with low level graphics API's years
ago. Soon there will be a pervasive scene graph layer which many of
these products could sit on and use as a base from which to add value if
they choose to do so, just as Vega adds value to Performer today.
Cheers,Angus.
