I have been doing that with JPEG-compressed QuickTime movies.
I used a separate thread that took care of reading the movie file and
decompressing images (using SGI's dmedia libraries) and then loaded the
decompressed data into texture in draw process using pfTexture::subload().
It was actually quite straightforward, and and worked fast enough for me
(my application runs on both O2 and Impact using the Impact Compression
JPEG-card) Of course, the movie files have to be converted to a format that
is supported in hardware. Also, the dmedia API is quite different in Impact
(Irix 6.2) and O2 (6.3) - on O2 you will definitely want to use DMbuffers
for the texture, but on Impact and 6.2 DMbuffers are not available. I think
that in 6.5 the DMbuffer API should work for all SGI machines.
Hope this helps and merry pfXmas for you all!
