As Brian already explained Clear Coat is not just simple two pass
rendering.
Reality mapping is not multipass environment mapping. It can support
singe pass world space environment mapping for constrained cases which
are particularly interesting to automobile designers, it also solves
some
tricky texture filtering issues to give these designers the kind of
quality
they need.

SGI won't be disclosing the technical details of how these features
are implemented.

Cheers,Angus.
