:However, my point is that there is no use saying "I used 'N' texels of
:overlap - and that's OK" - because there is no solid basis for that
:advice.

Steve:

Thanks for answering this. I've been lurking, reading info-performer but
not posting, and this particular query has driven me crazy! I kept
thinking that there must be _someone_ left at SGI who understands
how tiled MIP-map textures work, and could explain it in the mailing
list. After all, it was explained in the IRIS GL manuals and man-pages
in the "Need for texture borders" sections, it's referred to in the Clip-
Map documentation as a problem solved by Clip-Maps, and I think it
survived our SIGGRAPH Clip-Map paper final edits as well.

Now that you've pointed out the basic issue, the pressure is off, so it
won't gall me as much that SGI could not/would not answer it. One
hopes that they're just so busy they failed to post the reply.

Regards and admiration,
Michael
