Yes, we have done this. The best place to start is the Performer demo in

/usr/share/Performer/src/pguide/libpf/C/movietex.c

which gives you the basics. Beware that it uses OpenGL calls. It took us
quite some time to get these calls right since unlike the demo we had to
combine it with other normally textured objects and we kept getting
textures corrupted.

Another thing to notice is that it reduces the frame rate, as can be
expected there is more overhead in applying live video as texture than a
static image. Also, if I remember rightly, you are limited in the
min/mag filters allowed.
