Goals and Scope of the Workshop
The International Immersive Projection Technology (IPT) Workshop is a
well introduced forum for all users of IPT and possible IPT users of the
future. Currently, there is a great deal of research being performed in
the area of virtual reality that focuses on specific issues for
projection-based systems. This research covers a wide variety of topics,
ranging from screen configurations, to rendering algorithms, to software
architectures, to applications, to networking. The results of all this
research can be found scattered across technical conferences, journals
and technical reports in related areas, such as computer graphics,
human-computer interaction and general virtual reality. This situation
has been the motivation for the 3rd Annual International Immersive
Projection Technology Workshop, a forum to present current research and
development activities using projection technology for virtual reality.
Like in both finished workshops in 97 and 98 we want to address all
immersive large-scale projection-technologies like:
CAVE, Virtual Portal, C2, Cube, CAVEEE, VET
Powerwalls and all single screen Stereo-Projections (with
or without edge-blending)
All types of bench-based projection systems
etc.
and its application areas like:
General and scientific Visualization
Engineering
Art & Entertainment
etc.
The technical level of the workshop will be intermediate so everybody
who is familiar with the basics of 3D computer graphics can participate.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to
General technical aspects of front and rear projections
Mechanical and optical issues of projection systems
General software aspects for rendering systems
System software for projection based systems
Tracked and non tracked input devices for IPT
Application examples in context of IPT systems
Usability and Human Computer Interface aspects of IPTs
Experience of IPT users
