Several companies have done this. I lead a team that developed a RADAR
sim targeted to the SGI platform, but there was no need to use Performer
(since a RADAR scan is similar to a form of ray tracing, our application
was more CPU-intensive then graphics intensive, and we simply used
OpenGL to generate the sweeps...during testing, we even ran the display
on a Linux box to demonstrate its portability :-). Other companies,
notably Camber and SAIC (there may be others) offer RADAR products that
use Performer or OpenGL targeted at the SGI platform.
