      8:30-9:00 Tech Talk & Demos

Note that we've changed the time to 7pm (with talks beginning
at 7:30) to avoid a conflict with the SGI Developer reception
      also taking place that evening.

o IRIS Performer in the SGI booth. Come visit the Graphics API
station in the SGI technology booth (#1609) where we will be
showing off the latest IRIS Performer and OpenGL Optimizer
      demos and features. Schedule:

         Tue. July 21st 10:00am - 2:00pm: OpenGL Optimizer
                           2:00pm - 6:00pm: IRIS Performer

                           2:00pm - 6:00pm: OpenGL Optimizer

         Thu. July 23rd 10:00am - 1:30pm: OpenGL Optimizer
                           1:30pm - 5:00pm: IRIS Performer

   o The Experience. An eyeball-rattling, mind-boggling theater.
You'll be fully immersed in large-scale, real-time flight and
land simulations and will take a wild ride on a virtual jungle
cruise. Be prepared for the ultimate 3D roller coaster ride
then feast your senses on the master pieces in our virtual art
gallery. The Experience is a great example of the Silicon
      Graphics RealityCenter, featuring wrap-around, high-resolution,
high-brightness visual display and seamless multi-channel
graphics projection system to support an awesome field of view
PLUS touchscreen display control, multi-channel digital audio,
and support for 3D, 2D and Web applications. In the SGI
      technology booth, #1609.

o Courses and papers of interest to IRIS Performer developers

      Papers: Hardware Acceleration
      Thursday, July 23, 8:30 a.m.
          - The Clipmap: A Virtual Mipmap

Real-Time Graphics for Visual Simulation: Advanced
      Techniques from the Top Down
      Course #20, Monday, July 20, 8:30-5 p.m.

Algorithms developed for flight simulators running on
multimillion-dollar systems have evolved into useful methods
for real-time interactive applications on much less
expensive computers. This course explores those visual
simulation algorithms and tricks that still require high-end
hardware. It also details sophisticated techniques for
handling large complex scenes in real time.

Advanced Geometric Techniques for Ray Casting Volumes
      Course #4, Sunday, July 19, 1:30-5 p.m.

Hardware-assisted volume rendering techniques for solving
common practical problems. The course introduces a framework
that unifies treatment of volumes and geometry and then
presents effective techniques for handling such commonly
occurring tasks as deforming volumes, defining arbitrarily
shaped regions of interest, clipping to nonplanar surfaces,
         and rendering multiple volumes.

A Visual Introduction to OpenGL Programming
      Course #7, Sunday, July 19, 1:30-5 p.m.

An introduction to writing interactive graphics programs
using the OpenGL API. Instead of snippets of code and
static, captured images, this course features interactive
tools to visualize and experiment with computer graphic
concepts, such as transformations, lighting, and texture
         mapping.

Advanced Graphics Programming Techniques Using OpenGL
      Course #17, Monday, July 20, 8:30-5 p.m.

Practical solutions to domain-specific graphics application
problems. Emphasis is on techniques for interactive graphics
running on mainstream graphics hardware. Topics are drawn
from the major graphics application areas, including CAD,
         visual simulation/gaming, image processing, scientific
         visualization, and special effects.

Rendering with Radiance: A Practical Tool for Global Illumination
      Course #33, Tuesday, July 21, 8:30-5 p.m.

Essential information for artists, designers, and
researchers interested in creating realistic images with the
Radiance System that has been used for virtual sculpture,
theatrical backdrop rendering, and validating computer
vision systems for the space shuttle. Four experts
demonstrate their work and provide tips for using the
software to solve practical problems in lighting analysis,
theater lighting, daylighting design, and more.

      Parallel Graphics and Visualization Technology
      Course #42, Tuesday, July 21, 1:30-5 p.m.

Issues and challenges of incorporating parallelism into
hardware and software rendering systems: the development of
         parallel graphics; state-of-the-art graphics hardware
architectures and parallelism in the software that uses
         them; design of fully parallelized rendering systems;
software rendering on massively parallel supercomputers.

Authoring Compelling and Efficient VRML97 Worlds
      Course #45, Tuesday, July 21, 1:30-5 p.m.

Get the knowledge required to make intelligent decisions
about creating VRML97 content that runs efficiently on
modern VRML97 browsers. Topics include measuring and
predicting run-time performance, texture and sound
techniques to minimize download without sacrificing
performance or looks, navigation aids to reduce the burden
of 3D navigation, and how VRML97 browsers optimize their
         rendering.
