I need to get a reliable (fixed) frame rate of 72hz with my application,
but I cannot get even a reliable 36hz frame rate right now. I have tried
a few things, but with little success.
I only have random dots (LightPoints) which are stable and I move the camera
around. Only for a ridiculously low number of random dots I get a 72hz frame
rate if I use a large window. With a small window I can get a 72hz frame rate.
-since I do not care for resolution, I thought that a lower resolution should
improve performace. But I could not find any simple way to do it in Performer.
Any ideas? I looked into the LODs, but I need something much simpler than
that -just coarser resolution across all my lightpoints, regardless of distance
from the viewer.
-I monitored the performance with pfDrawChanStats and it looks like app takes
0.5 msec, draw/cull 12.5 and dbase 0. Shouldn't that be sufficient to get
a 72hz frame rate?
-more generally, are there better ways (in terms of performance) to get i
uniformly bright random dots other than using LightPoints? I suspect that
since each lightpoint emits light, a lot of computation may be wasted in
figuring out the lighting of the scene.
I will gladly welcome any suggestion,
Monica
