Well, the secret seems to be out. I left Silicon Graphics about
a month ago along with Chris Tanner and Rémi Arnaud to create a
new class of software solution for the markets that leverage
visual simulation technologies. Our novel approach solves the
key technical and business issues facing developers of real-time
graphics applications as well as the strategic roadmap problems
described in Angus Dorbie's frank info-performer email. My
resignation was largely motivated by the belief that success in
this software venture requires a different business model than
that of a hardware company.
Best wishes to the many friends of IRIS Performer, the past and
present members of the extended IRIS Performer team, and the
engineers of Silicon Graphics. In the past six years we have
together redefined the meaning of excellence in the visual
simulation marketplace and your accomplishments have exceeded my
wildest expectations. Achieving graphics innovations of similar
scale beyond IRIS Performer's current state-of-the-art requires
a different company and approach. Although I have gone to
transform this possibility into reality, I leave with each of
you my greatest respect and lifelong admiration.
