Are you saying that you can't kill off the initial (spawning) process
using killall or kill, even as root ? That doesn't sound right to me.

PS killall understands arguments such as -9 or KILL as well.

PPS you need to be root to run 'freeproc'. It's a shell script rather
than an executable so have a look inside it. I believe it uses mpadmin
to free processors and re-schedule priorities, timers etc.
