Yes, it is. The source for this function used to be distributed
with the Haeberli image tools in the 4Dgifts directory. I think
that doesn't happen with more modern IRIX releases. However, if
you have an older machine somewhere...

IMHO, it's easier to skip pfTexture::loadFile() and do it
yourself - then you can control stuff like how MIPmaps are
constructed - which can be a useful thing to do.
